FX’s “Fargo” has cast its first stars for Season 2, adding Kirsten Dunst and Jesse Plemons to the next installment of its true-crime anthology series set to premiere in 2015.

Dunst (“Spider-Man” franchise, “Melancholia”) will play Peggy Blomquist, “a small-town beautician with big-city dreams who is trying to figure out who she really is and what she really wants as she struggles with traditional societal expectations.”

Plemons (“Breaking Bad,” “Friday Night Lights”) will play her husband, Ed, a butcher’s assistant trying to be supportive of his wife’s self-discovery even if he doesn’t understand it.

The new 10-episode season will be a prequel to the original “Fargo” and set in 1979 in Sioux Falls, SD, and Luverne, Minn.

The story will revolve around a young Lou Solverson (played by Keith Carradine in Season 1 and not yet cast for the new season) as a state police officer recently back from Vietnam tackling a new “true-crime” case.

Other characters yet to be cast include Solverson’s wife, Betsy, their 4-year-old daughter, Molly (played by Allison Tolman in Season 1), and fellow officer Ben Schmidt.

The miniseries — which won three Emmy Awards — begins production on Season 2 in January in Calgary.
