Brig Owens is the name of a 13-year NFL veteran and one of the best Washington Redskins players of his time, who passed away last week.
Owens began his NFL career as a brilliant quarterback out of the University of Cincinnati, being picked by the Dallas Cowboys in 1965 before being shifted to safety and traded to Washington the following year.
According to Owens, moving to Washington was the “greatest thing that ever happened to me – it gave me a new beginning.” Owens was named into the University of Cincinnati Athletic Hall of Fame in 1979.
He enrolled in law school at the conclusion of his playing career and became active in NFL Players Association activities, first as a player representative and then as its assistant executive director.
